9 miles is a very useful training distance for many runners from 5k racers to marathoners. It's not as much of a time commitment as some of the longer endurance distances, but it's well into the zone where you have run long enough to be burning some actual body fat as a fuel source.

9 miles is 14.48 kilometers -- just short of 15 K.

A nine mile training run is a long run for 10 K, 5 K, and shorter distance racers, while for half-marathoners and marathoners, it is a good maintenance distance for a regular run.
